MR. CHET HAIBEL

Mr. Chet Haibel, M.S.E.E., Senior Principal Reliability Engineer, Medtronic ERS, Redmond, WA

Chet Haibel received Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering degrees from Cornell University.  A Senior Member of the American Society for Quality, he is Certified by ASQ as a Reliability Engineer, Quality Engineer, Software Quality Engineer, Quality Auditor, Biomedical Auditor, and Manager of Quality /Organizational Excellence.

Chet has lectured internationally with Dr. Gregg K. Hobbs under the auspices of Hobbs Engineering Corporation for over 20 years.  Since March 2007, he has been a full-time, independent consultant in Reliability, Risk Management, and Quality.  Chet lives on Whidbey Island in the Seattle / Puget Sound area.

Before becoming a consultant, he was the Senior Principal Reliability Engineer at Medtronic Physio-Control, the oldest and largest medical device company making External Defibrillators.
Previously, Chet worked at Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon Endo-Surgery, the premier medical device company making endoscopic surgical equipment.  There he was a Team Quality Engineer, and an internal consultant in Quality, Reliability, and Risk Mgmt.
Before that, Chet was the Reliability Engineering Mgr. at IVAC, an Eli Lilly & Co. medical device company making Infusion Pumps and Vital Signs measuring equipment.

Before medical devices, Chet worked for Hewlett-Packard as an Engineer and Project Manager on a wide variety of HP instruments.  As Quality Manager, he was instrumental in HP’s surpassing the 10X Reliability Improvement Challenge in Disk Drives.
He has two patents and has authored several technical papers.  Chet is certified as a Six Sigma Green Belt by Johnson & Johnson Company.
